Directed Electronics unveiled the 25th Anniversary lineup at CES 2009 this pas week. The most prominent of the new models is their flagship amplifier the HCCA 50001. This amplifier is definitely not for the weak of heart and will undoubtedly show up at several sound off competitions this summer. The first thing you will notice about the amp is the body, striking annodized red die cast aluminum with the classic Orion logo smartly etched on the removable front panel. The top cover is removable and conceals the gain controls underneath, to gain access to these controls the panel has to be unlocked with a special key provided with the amplifier to prohibit anyone from tampering with the gain controls once tuned. All of the new HCCA and XTR amplifiers come with a "Birth Certificate" which will include information such as date of manufacture as well as specifications as tested. The HCCA 50001 is rated at a heart stopping 5000 watts RMS at 1 ohm and is not intended for the masses, but it is a tribute to the Orion legacy of the 80's when the HCCA amplifiers dominated the sound off competitions with MOSFET Class D design delivering serious amounts of power driving ridiculously low impedences at completely sick output levels. Look for us on the SPL battlefield this year, we're looking to dominate again!
