Orion Car Audio HCCA Challenge

How do we know who the best fighter in the world is? For that matter, what the best football team, baseball team etc? Well that's easy, take the best teams, fighters and let them compete head to head, winner is crowned THE BEST! When Orion Car Audio released the HCCA competition series woofer last year they felt that they had made the best subwoofer, bar none. So naturally they had to come up with a competition to pit the Orion HCCA competition subwoofer to the best subwoofers in the industry. Orion Car Audio wnet head to head withthe following impressive line up of quality subwoofers:

  • Rockford Power Series
  • Cerwin Vega Stroker
  • JL Audio W7
  • MTX Thunder Series
  • Kicker SoloX

The folks at Orion came up with the following test:

Test Steps:
Step 1 -Break-In 1 hour at 1000 RMS with 30 Hz test tone or 2000 Peak Music Power from test disk to break-in the speaker.
Step 2 - Begin Peak Music Test1 hour at 3000 W Peak Music Power. Monitor the speaker performance during the test. Once Step 2 is begun the speaker should not be given any prolonged rest or cool down time until the Step 2 is completely finished or the woofer fails.
Step 3 thru 13 - Continue Test At the end of each hour let the test speaker rest for 30 minutes then increase power in 500 W RMS increments. During the rest period the woofer should be visually examined for any failures or problems during this pause.
