Directed Issues Recall on Some Remote Starters

Directed  announced a voluntary recall on some remote starters for vehicles with push to start ignition systems.

The recall applies to software for remote starters and interfaces that have been installed in cars from 2008-2015 with push to start technology.  In some installation configurations, the engine may unintentionally shut down.

Those cars using a traditional key ignition system are not affected.

Directed said the glitch is a software issue that requires a firmware update in select AutoStart and DBALL interfaces.  No product need be returned. The software has been corrected on products sold after July 15, 2014.


To date, no injuries or accidents have been reported to Directed as a result of this issue, and the recall is “out of an abundance of caution,” said Directed.


The problem was discovered during “advanced in field testing.”  It may affect up to 8,000 vehicles.

Consumers with an Autostart Remote Start System or DBALL interface that have been installed with Viper, Clifford, Python, AutoMate, AstroStart, Avital and Autostart products  and installed on Push to Start vehicles, model years between 2008 and 2015,should visit www.directed.com/recall or call Directed customer service at 1-888-770-7122 to learn if their system is affected.  If so, they should contact the retailer that installed their system for a free service update.
